A Few Other March Highlights

A Few Other March Highlights

Well it's mid-May, and I am trying hard to let go of March and April blogposts that never happened, because I really need to jump into May.  However, I can't skip them altogether, so here is a very little bit about March.

The biggest thing was This Announcement!

It's official!  Brinley and Derek are engaged.  We are very excited for them, and it's also nice (on their end too) to be able to begin planning a few things. (date, temple reservations, venue, airline tickets etc.)

They called to share the big news when Brian and I ...and Aubrey.... were celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary at a cute little brunch place.  It was really fun for the three of us to step into the lobby and hear the details and be so excited all at the same time.
I made this card for Brian.  It only took me three times on my Silhouette, but I thought it was pretty.  Brian gave me this creative notes with fun treats to go along with it.
We kept our celebration pretty low key because we actually had a whole "anniversary trip" planned in Utah the last week of February.  I put anniversary trip in quotes because our truer motive was to go meet this young man who was so important to Brinley.

Crazy thing though...I did not go on our anniversary trip.  The very trip I planned from the air travel, to the VRBO, plus two Hale Center Theater productions,to lots of Brinley and Derek time, to an afternoon at BYU, fishing, a hike, meeting up with one of my mission families, hanging out with Gwilliam family, the temple and more.

Nope, I missed our anniversary trip and all of the fun activities mentioned above.  SOOOO Crazy.  To make a very long story short, I had been a little dizzy earlier in the week and I thought maybe I had an ear infection.  I was worried about flying so the morning of our trip I went to the doctor to get my ears checked out.  Everything looked good, but she randomly checked me for Flu and Covid because Flu had been going around; and it came back positive for flu.  WHAT?  I had to make a quick decision to go or to stay.  I decided rather than spread my love, I better stay.  Maybe I was at the beginning of the flu and that's why I felt just fine?  I wasn't worried about Brinley too much, but I didn't want to get Bruce and Denise and family sick.  (We were staying there two days.)

I felt 100% fine the ENTIRE time I was home.  I was really bummed I missed out on getting to meet Derek.  I was disappointed to miss out on our anniversary trip, but I was glad Bri got to go.  It also worked out for me to stay home because Aubrey was not feeling well.  I took her to the doctor, and she had a sinus infection.  She was pretty miserable, so I took care of her instead of passing that on to my dad.

Back to our anniversary celebration...that is why we just had a lowkey brunch with Aubrey.  We had already spent lots of money/time on our Utah trip.  Ha!

Moving on with other March happenings.  We were able to celebrate Holden (my nephew) and his girlfriend's upcoming baby girl due in May.
Courtney, Holden, Tanner, Kaide and Erin

This cute dad and his boy.  It is really fun seeing Tanner as a daddy.  He is kind and patient and loving.  It's fun to have him come over during the week to hang out too.  The three of us often go on walks or to the park on Tuesday and Thursday mornings while Erin is at work.

Tanner and Erin are Primary teachers, and it's the cutest thing.  They have the 5 & 6 year olds, and we love hearing about the funny things the kids say and do.  Tanner said, "This is SO much better than adult Sunday School."  I concur.

Brian and I love being on call for nursery with Kaide if needed.  Also, I one week I got to be the 2nd adult in the room and watch Tanner in action with the kids, and it was adorable.  He was great about calling them by name each time and letting them ask and answer questions.  He kept kindly redirecting them back to the lesson.

No pictures of Parker from this month.  He has been loving BYUI this semester even more than last.  He is doing well in school and fitting in lots and lots of late nights and fun weekends with friends.

And to wrap up March, I enjoyed a temple trip/Lubbock weekend with Aubrey.

The Fiance

I finally got to meet the boyfriend fiancé.  I am writing this in September of 2024 but I this post was started spring of 2024...so it's going to be short-ish and sweet and maybe a little skewed.

Brian and I were flying out to Utah to celebrate our anniversary, visit Bryn and most importantly to meet this boy that she liked so much.  Long story short, I tested positive for the flu and ended up staying home.  Brian, Brinley and Derek had all sorts of adventures without me--bummer.

Luckily, they were able to fly out to Odessa for a weekend visit in March.  Derek was great.  He was easy to talk to and I enjoyed hearing some about his high school years, mission and home.  It was really fun to see Brinley so happy, and it was wonderful getting to meet him in person.  He was easy to talk to, happy and kept Brinley cracking up.  I can tell he comes from a good family and is a hard worker. (I know that is not a lot of info but if I don't just post about some events in our lives...I will just be paralyzed with overwhelm.)  Here are a few pictures from their visit to the Big O.
Derek Atkinson, in the flesh...getting to meet Grandma (and Grandpa) Vore

Aub skipped lunch and came to the park to see her big sis and Derek and Kaide.  Aubrey was able to meet Derek in February when she flew out.  They have a fun, teasing relationship.
We all LOVE this little boy so much.

Grandpa came through once again with these BEAUTIFUL engagement pictures.  It was fun for them to get to visit with Grandpa a little more too during their trip.

It was also such a crazy weekend.  Everyone was out of town!  My three local siblings and their families were anyways.  So Brinley was hoping to introduce Derek to the extended fam, but it didn't work out great.  We couldn't do a Taco Villa Monday (on Friday) gathering or a Sunday night family gathering.  Grandpa did take us to Rosas but it was only me, Aub, Derek and Brinley.  Luckily the Birds came in late Saturday and we got to hang out with Braddock and Adam at their shop for a bit. (Pickleball, balance challenge and more.)

Overall we approve!  Derek is a keeper.

Sunday Night Easter

Deal or No Deal Easter Egg Edition

Brit is always good to bring the fun.  She and Adam would stuff the eggs with candy, a few dollars, a $5 bill, a $10 bill, a $20 bill and a $50 bill.  They had an Excel sheet that allowed all the kids to play a version of the Deal or No Deal game show explained below.

A contestant must choose from 26 sealed briefcases containing a marker for various amounts of cash from one penny to $1 million. The player then eliminates the remaining 25 cases one by one. The chosen ones are opened and the amount of money inside revealed. After several cases are opened, the player is tempted by the Banker to accept an offer of cash in exchange for not continuing the game and possibly winning a larger sum of money.

The bank pretty much came out on top the majority of times.  It's tricky to pick the lucky $50 egg to begin with and then you have to weigh the pros and cons of continuing.  Everyone had a fun time trying their luck, and it was fun to mix our Sunday night gathering up a bit.  (We hid and egg with candy and played "Hot and Cold" for the little Vore boys.)

We moved on the the backyard egg hunt.  Christian had been waiting for this moment all night.
