Parker's first email as a missionary.❤
I love how honest and real he was with his feelings.
Hey guys I've made it to my first P day. For the MTC it's on Friday but here in a few weeks it will be on Mondays. I got set apart as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Saturday night and then flew from the Dominican to Odessa. Sunday night I was really nervous and wasn't too sure about the mission. I didn't want to leave my family and had nothing to do with all my free time. So basically just feeling sorry for myself. Monday was my first day in the online MTC. We had a workshop and there were 575 other missionaries all on their first days too. It made me think about me not being the only one leaving my old life behind. Then we talked about how important missionary work is not only will it benefit me but all of the people we come in contact with and God. They told us a story about President Hinckley (A modern day prophet). On his third week on the mission he told his dad I'm wasting my time and your money. I'm ready to come home. All his dad wrote back was "forget yourself and lose yourself in the work. He was shocked and probably very angry. But it helped me realize if I work on my attitude about it all and lose myself in the work others and myself will be blessed.
My companion is Elder Romney, he's super cool and is from Prosper, TX. Best part is he's going to GHANA with me and we're super pumped. We also met our district so a group of missionaries that we go to class with and get to know better, and they are awesome. They are from all over the US and are serving all over the world English speaking. One Elder is going to Liberia so only one country in between Ghana and his mission President had him set a doctor's appointment that's in 2 years. And it's de-worming soo sounds like I'll get to bring home a few friends and souvenirs. I have 2 teachers and one served in the Ivory west coast mission and that's the country right next to Ghana so it's been cool to hear and see pictures of what I'll be living through.
My schedule the last 3 days has been pretty full with classes and studying and teaching people. I like it alot better when I'm busy and doing something. I have 2 classes at the same time each day, and they are both 3 hours each. I was worried at first that I would get bored and it would be too long, but they actually fly by and I'm really enjoying them. Much better than any high school class I've ever had. I'm still adjusting to getting up at 6:30 but it's not too bad when you fall asleep by 10:30 and don't have a phone to scroll on till 3.
I leave Odessa to go to the Provo MTC Tuesday and I'm way excited to meet my district and companion. This week has been awesome!
