Coming Off Anesthesia: Aubrey Unedited

December 19, 2025

Aubrey came home late Thursday night and had her wisdom teeth removed early Friday morning. She had such epic reactions coming off of anesthesia that I had to make it an individual blog post.

She wanted me to document everything after her surgery. I'm so glad because she was hilarious. I asked her twice if I could send the video to the family group chat. In response, she through her arms up in the air and slurred, "Hey, it's a free country. I couldn't stop you if I tried."

She took a picture and sent it to our family group chat. Erin (Noel) said this was her new favorite selfie ever.

Aub posed/modeled several times when she saw her reflection in the phone. She talked about the cute guys in her ward by name. (Gold!) I reminded her several times NOT to text a certain young man just yet. I hope she didn't send her selfie his way. Ha!

Parker came home from working at Grandpa's and began teasing. When she cried, "Where is Dad? I just want Dad!" He told her he was never coming home. Then, when she was worried about her mouth being numb, Parker teased her about kissing. That sent Aubrey into a little tale spin on how she was ever going to get her first kiss.

She wanted to take a selfie with me and Parker. She took them. These are the results.

Anesthesia confidence is unmatched!

Yea...her daddy did eventually come home from work, and she was very comforted.
Grandpa stopped by to visit too.
Later that day, Charlotte, her friend in the scrubs at the beginning of the video, came by to hang out. They both enjoyed watching some of the videos from that morning. Charlotte is a good friend from BYU. She lives in our stake, but the girls didn't ever get to know each other until this semester. Also, Charlotte's dad is an oral surgeon and did the surgery. She was able to be in the room while her dad worked on Aubrey. Pretty fun.
Aub was faithful about putting ice on her face for the first three days. She was bemoaning the swelling. Eventually it went down. Her friend Parker came over on Saturday afternoon. After a quick trip to Target, they slept all afternoon. I was glad because I knew Aubrey needed to rest. She had stayed up with Charlotte past midnight the day of her surgery. Crazy girl.

She was a little embarrassed to go to church with her face so swollen, and on Sunday, day three, she felt the worst. I'm glad she went though. We had a beautiful Christmas service with three musical numbers and two talks.

Aubrey

has been a great sport about the whole thing. She even made a three minute compilation to share with our extended family at our Christmas Eve talent show. Clearly, we use the term "talent show" loosely. We can only bring to the table what we've got. We will be laughing about this one for years Aub Daub--thanks for the good times!
