March 2019
About four or five years ago we gave both sets of grandparents a little 3x5 spiral bound memory book. It was called "Grandma, Tell Me Your Memories" (or Grandpa.) We asked them to fill it out and return it to us so we could know about their childhood even more. There was a page for each day of the year with questions like: What was your bedroom like? Share an embarrassing moment. Who did you look up to? What was a favorite subject in High School? Who was your first date? What is something important your father taught you?My mom worked really hard to fill her book out and about 2 years after we gave it to her, she gave it back to us. We then incorporated that into our morning scripture studies. It was so fun learning many small and large details from her childhood. I also compiled her answers along with pictures into a Shutterfly book and Grandpa purchased enough so every grandchild could have their own. We LOVE it!!!
My dad completed his little book in 2018, and I began working on a Shutterfly book for him. Give me about 40 more hours and we will have his book complete. (I hope!) It is definitely a labor of love that we all benefit from. (I am still hoping Brian's parents will be handing us back their little books one day...but I don't feel like I can bug them about it the same way I did with my parents! 😂) In fact, here is one of the questions that was asked and how my dad answered:
Make up a limerick about me.
There was was a daughter 45,
Who tried to make me write.
All the things I remember
From January to December
And bugged me until I died.
Thanks Dad. You know you love me.
Anyway, I am including a few random pictures that I uploaded for my dad's book. We have
probably 100 plus uploaded but I am going to include a few of me with my family here
because I think my kids, if they ever look back at this blog, might enjoy them.
