Sunday

Aubrey had her first talk on Sunday.  She was assigned the topic of dress and modesty.  Luckily we have 1:30 church because she remembered late Saturday night and I totally forgot.  She did a great job.  She shared a scripture, a personal story about going to a dance studio in Midland that strives for more modest costumes, and counsel from  For the Strength of Youth.  I just wish Gram and Gramp had been in town to hear it.  Sunday morning as she was preparing she had the biggest smile and sighed "Mom, two of my dreams are coming true today.  I get to give a talk in sacrament meeting AND I get to teach Primary!"  It was adorable and made my heart happy.

We usually take two cars to church and the second one is usually running late.  Parker has been ready and early to church to help with the sacrament two weeks in a row.  Thank you Parker.

During sacrament meeting I had the boys on either side of me.  When we stood to sing the intermediate hymn they decided to have a little leaning war with me being squished in the middle.  They are big boys and it was silly.  I tried to get them to calm down...didn't want to distract those behind us.  No luck.  So I started singing a little louder in an operatic voice.  Worked like a charm!  They were horrified and both immediately stopped pushing me and we were able to finish the hymn.

Bryn taught the Family Home Evening (FHE) lesson today.  It was simple and effective.  She mentioned the upcoming General Conference and then showed this video.  Then she challenged us each to think of a question or concern we had and 1.seek 2. receive and 3. act as we watched General Conference this weekend.  I love General Conference.  Can't wait.
Tanner.  When you are having FHE and you ask your teen to please put on a shirt and sit up for the lesson...and this is his response.  (The blanket is his shirt and he is clearly sitting up just as I asked.) Ahh, motherhood.
We played Code Names for our activity.  We actually started last Sunday and I had to leave for a meeting so we only played one round.  I left the game out for a couple of days because I was hoping our schedules would align and we could finish it up.  No luck.  So we played two more rounds this Sunday.  It's good to play together.  It got a little competitive (girls vs boys) and there were some rule disagreements.  At one point Tanner growled at one of the girls "don't touch me."  We had fun teasing each other and the girls especially had fun because we creamed them.  I am glad we have these family times to practice being kind even when we are frustrated.

One last Sunday story.  We have been trying to figure out how to do Come Follow Me (CFM) and fit in FHE.  The kids schedules vary so much throughout the week it is hard to have an evening where we are all home at the same time.   We started doing CFM as our daily scripture study each evening instead of a 45 minute lesson on Sunday.  Now we can go back to Family Home Evening on Sunday morning and I feel much better about things.  It's nice to have a pattern we feel good about.
