I had a great birthday. Brian and I knew it would be a busy day so we went out to eat at Olive Garden earlier in the week.
Aubrey planned several days in advance to make my day extra special. She set her alarm on Friday morning so she could make me one of my favorite breakfasts: pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream.
Tanner gave me a huge Hershey bar. I was so excited. It's been three days, and it is gone! Parker had already left for a track meet, but he left a card for a DQ Blizzard date. I think my love language might be junk food.
Brinley sent me a sweet text and ordered me a copy of Saints,Volume II. (Sure miss that girl.) Aub made me a really pretty rose, wrote a sweet b-day card and gave me lots of coupons to use. (Good for a foot massage, a chore, something of my choosing etc.) I am not sure how she is surviving in sport shorts and a t-shirt. I was very warm and comfortable in my favorite Comfy.
Bri gave me a sweet card, yummy candy and chocolate treats and a gift card for a massage.
I gave Bri a card and a little Valentine shadow box I made. We also gave the kids some Gushers for V-day so I gave some to Bri too.
And just like that, it was time to move on to real life. Bri headed to Lubbock to support Tanner at basketball game and I headed to Midland to watch Parker in his first varsity track meet.
There were at least a hundred runners there and this was as close as I got to me boy. He is in gray sweats--the one on the left. I was there for 2.5 hours and only saw him run one of his races: the open 100. He did great! Later he ran the open 200. I think he placed 6th in one and 10th in the other one.
It was freezing and the teams were there from 8 am-9 pm. It looked like a homeless camp with all of the teams taking up residents under the bleachers. Parker brought two sleeping bags, my comfy and his pillow. Field events were in the morning but his first race wasn't until 5pm!
Did I mention it was FREEZING? I had on three layers and brought hand warmers and was still so cold.
It was Tanner's second to last game so I am glad Brian could go. He played almost the entire game. Tanner puts in a lot of extra time outside of workouts shooting baskets and doing ball handling drills. I'm glad his hard work is recognized by the coach with playing time on the court.
La came over for the afternoon. She and Aubrey messed around in the back yard, trained Buttercup and made up Tic Toc dances. They hung out with Gram for a couple of hours too. They played some games together. The girls also took advantage of their captive audience of one (Gram) and made up and performed dances for her.
I left the track meet to pick up these two and grab dinner at McAlister's Deli. Because it was Valentine's Day, it was empty. I loved that the girls were silly and brave and showed me a couple of their dances.
All in all, it was a good birthday celebration filled with some love and some real life.
