On Tuesday Tanner invited friends to play basketball at the church. I spent my afternoon up there so there would be an adult in the building. I worked on large dice for Yardzee orders and then cleaned, cleaned, cleaned the building.
We had a funeral luncheon scheduled for Wednesday and the the building needed work. I wish we would have thought to contact the ward in charge of cleaning this week to see if they could come early, but we didn't. Bishop Ormsby stopped by with his group and helped clean out the gym and take out some trash. Yea. The Elders Quorum arranged for the tables and chairs to be set up and taken down.
I am currently serving as Relief Society president and there were just enough perfectly lined up events that I felt a little overwhelmed. (A counselors A/C was out. Our compassionate service leader started a remodel this week. A few sisters I called to see if they could bring food got back to me late etc) I am so grateful so many were able to help make food. Also two sisters who dropped off food stayed and helped during the meal....lifesavers!
Of course on the morning of the funeral, I was worried we would not have enough food. How do you plan for fifty? Food is not by best talent. I made an early trip to Walmart and bought stuff for four pans of funeral potatoes. Then I ran home and started madly throwing them together. Of course, I was just short of the sour cream I needed. Whoops. Brinley ran back to the store.
Brinley also helped me set up and serve food, and I asked our missionaries too as well. They came straight from service. They were in p-day clothes and streaked with dirt and stain. Whoops, a guess I should have been more clear on what I was hoping for. I put them too work until the family started showing up.
Because of my life at church. This has been our kitchen for two days. Our family room and my room don't look much better. Maybe....hopefully...I'll get to them today.
